The owners of this luxury property decided to replace an outdoor hot tub that was not being used with a new and more functional outdoor space. The decision was made as a family as the older children wanted to have a space for themselves, and likewise the homeowners wanted the opportunity to retreat away from the main house for their own use also.
A bioclimatic pergola was the perfect solution to achieve this additional space, but it was important that any new outdoor space would compliment the house itself, both in colour and in a contemporary appearance. After researching the luxury outdoor products available in the UK, the homeowners visited our stunning showroom in Leeds and decided that our premium Selene pergola would be the perfect addition to their home, and the functional, private outdoor space that they had been looking for.
The pergola sits directly next to the garden boundary and as such was restricted in height to under 2500mm to fall in line with UK building regulations, we therefore manufactured the pergola at 2275mm to fall well within this and to ensure that there would be no issues with the neighbour.
If the pergola would have been installed two metres away from the boundary, then there would have been no height limitation but in this instance the pergola sits nearly against the garden hedge.
Privacy is a key benefit of our pergolas and because this installation sits against the neighbouring boundary it was of the utmost importance to the homeowners so four aluminium shutters sit across the rear of the pergola.
The shutters can be fixed but in this installation they all slide, which is perfect if you want to open up the space, but in this example the sliding shutters simply allow the boundary hedge to cut back once a year, a great example of how our pergolas can be tailored for your specific requirements.
Two Burda heaters and an outdoor speaker compliment the perimeter and louvre lighting within the bioclimatic pergola. The roof louvre’s themselves can be opened, closed and rotated, while the light can be controlled and dimmed all by a Somfy application on your mobile phone. Rain, wind and snow sensors within the pergola also ensures that the roof louvres are opened and closed automatically in extreme weather conditions.
This stunning property is a great example of how outdoor living can be incorporated into home design. Large format glazing and bi-folding doors lead out onto a flush patio area with steps that lead up onto a lawn garden, with the stunning new pergola sitting neatly to one side sandwiched between the house and raised garden.
The benefits of the pergola are clear to see, it is a striking piece of architecture that looks wonderful and very much in keeping with the luxury home, while its functionality offers everything that the family dreamed of. Privacy has been gained from the neighbours with an outdoor space that can be used throughout the whole year whether that’s taking refuge from the sun or shelter from the winter elements and all with home automation technology that make the space perfect for intimate evenings under the stars through to large scale summer gatherings.
If you’re thinking of investing in a new bioclimatic pergola for your home then you really should take a look at the products and explore the options for yourself.
Our stunning Leeds showroom is open seven days a week with various displays both inside and outside the showroom making it the perfect place to visit if you’re looking to create your perfect outdoor space.
