The owners of this property were quite understandably exploring the best ways to make the most of the their stunning views so they visited our Leeds showroom to explore the outdoor solutions that we could offer. The existing patio already contained a balustrade to offer an element of wind and weather protection so rather than opting for a fully weather rated and thermally broken glass room they opted for a glass veranda system to create a weather protected outdoor space that could take full advantage of the surrounding West Yorkshire countryside.
Detailed below is what we delivered:
Our aluminium glass veranda is the perfect outdoor solution for a project like this. The modern design looks fantastic with 6mm glass within the roof and frameless glass sliding doors enclosing the whole structure.
The frameless glass sliding doors provide shelter from wind and rain without obstructing the views, while the slim rafters within the roof ensure that natural light within the home is not diminished at all, as the minimalist design allows maximum natural light both into the outdoor space and into the home.
The veranda spans 5.4metres but the existing patio was sat at two different levels with a slight step up. We therefore added a middle post to accommodate the step with two posts longer at the lower level than the third post sat on the higher level of the patio.
We adopted a similar method with the glass screens, with one side elevation and one half of the front elevation comprised of taller sliding glass doors than the remaining shorter glass doors that are located on the higher section of the patio.
This is the type of complex situation we often encounter at site survey but because our products are bespoke we can often find solutions that suits the space and looks stunning when finished.
360 views were a key requirement for the homeowners so we created a true glass room by installing glass sliding doors on both returns with a glass shaped frame sat directly above them. The cheese wedge glass sits directly below the roof and at the same angle to ensure that no natural light or outward view is blocked anywhere within the space.
Below the shaped glass the frameless glass doors slide in either direction allow the sides to open up to draw even more of the views into the space.
The finer details were covered too with an outdoor infrared heater installed and two LED spots integrated evenly within each roof spar. The 14 spot lights create a beautiful ambient setting on an early morning or late evening and the outdoor heater ensures that the space can be used and enjoyed well into the winter.
The front of the glass room spans 5400mm in width and projects out 2800mm with the lower side elevation standing 3005mm tall and the upper side elevation standing at 2885mm tall. The roof sits at a 12.5 degree pitch and the drainage is concealed within the three supporting posts at the front of the structure.
The RAL colour used throughout is 7016 Anthracite grey and the glass installed throughout is 6mm toughened glass.
The completed installation has added a beautiful looking glass structure onto this property.
The space is functional too, it can be opened on both sides and across the front, allowing panoramic views at all angles. The homeowners first visited our Leeds showroom looking for a bespoke solution that would allow them to make the most of their stunning views and that brief has been emphatically ticked.
An impressive glass structure with a minimalist design that will add shelter and weather protection during wind and rain but can be fully opened up to embrace the warm days and nights, a fantastic addition to this home that can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons.
