Background
This town house property boasts a well-designed and immaculately kept garden so the homeowners decided to replace their UPVC French door with a two panel bi-folding door to create more of an indoor, outdoor feel. They also wanted to make the most of their garden so were looking to purchase a bioclimatic pergola to add more usable space to their home, and to add more privacy while spending time outside in their garden.
Our Leeds showroom was the perfect place to visit to find both of these specialist products. As the orders were placed at the same time, we were able to package the project together by surveying and installing both the bi-fold doors and the pergola at the same time, resulting in a more economical price and the benefits of minimum fuss but double the excitement with the both products installed and the project quickly being completed.
What we delivered
Replacing the French door with a two-panel bi-fold door was the simple part of the project and the main feature is, without question our industry leading Winsol climate pergola. Expertly measured and installed onto the rear elevation of the property, it adds flexible and usable space into both the home and garden.
A seamless connection
A soak away drainage channel runs the full width of the property, which prevented us from fixing the pergola to the house wall. Instead, the pergola is free standing but expertly positioned adjacent to the house with a timber baton and lead flashing to bridge the two and provide a fully weather proof solution between the home and the outdoor structure. We have then used aluminium pressings to cloak the timber batons so they blend in with the rest of the structure to create a cohesive look to the pergola, which now appears directly connected to the home.
Bi-folding doors lead straight out from the property and into the newly installed pergola to create a fully flexible space that can be separated or opened up within seconds. The pergola will help keep the home cool at the height of summer while more than double the dining areas usable space, which can now be enjoyed long into the winter.
Homely touches
There’s a huge range of enclosure options within the Winsol range but the fixed wooden walls are definitely one of the most popular. Providing total privacy from the neighbours, beautifully achieved by a natural oak wooden wall that looks and smells great and really softens the overall aesthetic of the pergola, and makes it feel like a genuine extension of the home.
Our wooden walls are available in a range of colours with LED lights and glass insertions but in this instance, a solid wooden wall was the perfect backdrop for the space and the homeowners requirements.
Climate louvres
The Winsol climate louvre roof sits tight against the pergolas internal gutter to not only offer 100% weathertightness but a complete seal to reduce wind also. The louvres can also be insulated with sound reducing foam to reduce the sound of rain falling on the closed roof.
The unrivalled weather tightness of the climate pergola makes it the perfect outdoor product to add onto a property, allowing our large format bi-fold and sliding doors to form the perfect entryway from the home into a premium specification pergola that offers shelter and weather protection that far surpasses other pergolas on the market.
Perimeter and spot lighting
Ambient lighting is a key feature within the pergola and ensures that the stunning structure looks even better at night, whether that’s sat within the pergola or admiring the architectural feature from elsewhere in the garden.
A consistent strip light runs all the way round the perimeter and there are six LED spotlights within the roof louvres also, all of which are controlled either by push buttons within the post, or by remote control.
Pergola Specifications
The pergola stands at 4000mm x 3000mm and 2500mm high due to its proximity to the boundary.
Both the body of the pergola and the opening roof louvres are powder coated to RAL 7016 anthracite grey in a hard wearing textured finish.
